What coaching is and what to expect from it

The word “coaching” means something different to everyone. Before you start thinking about a first meeting, it is worth knowing what it really is — and what it isn't.

Coaching is a structured, future-focused conversation. A coach doesn't give you advice or ready-made solutions. Instead, they ask questions that help you get clear on where you want to go, what is holding you back along the way and what next step makes sense for you.

What coaching isn't

To avoid any misunderstanding — coaching is not:

When coaching makes sense

Coaching works best when:

What to expect from the first meeting

The first meeting is for both of us. You find out whether my way of working and the atmosphere suit you. I find out whether I can be of real help to you. It isn't a test — it's getting to know each other. You don't need to prepare anything in advance; just come with whatever is on your mind right now.

“Coaching doesn't give answers. It gives a space in which your own answers can be heard.”

And the results?

Real, not miraculous. A single meeting can bring a few AHA moments, but to move from a change in thinking to a change in action, you need to work together for at least three months. And both — thinking and action — will then last well beyond the end of our work together.
